Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about letting AI handle purchases on your behalf — safely, with your rules, and always with your approval.

Getting Started

Can AI actually buy things for me?

Yes. AI agents can research products, compare options, and complete purchases on your behalf — but only with your explicit approval. PettyBot provides the approval and payment layer that makes this safe.

Your AI sends a purchase request, you see the details (merchant, amount, description), and approve or deny with a tap. No money moves without you.

What is PettyBot?

PettyBot is a spend-control layer for AI agents. It connects to your AI assistant via Model Context Protocol (MCP) and gives it the ability to request purchases.

Every request goes through your approval, spend limits, and merchant rules before any money moves. Think of it as petty cash for your AI — you set the budget, the rules, and approve every transaction.

How do I set up PettyBot?

PettyBot is currently in early access. Join the waitlist to be among the first users.

Once available, setup involves adding PettyBot as an MCP server to your AI agent, connecting a payment method, and configuring your spend rules — all in a few minutes.

What AI agents work with PettyBot?

PettyBot works with any AI agent that supports Model Context Protocol (MCP). This includes any AI agent that supports MCP.

As MCP adoption grows, PettyBot will work with more agents automatically — no updates needed on your end.

Safety & Security

Is it safe to let AI spend my money?

With PettyBot, yes. Multiple layers of protection keep you in control:

Every purchase requires your explicit approval via FaceID, TouchID, or manual confirmation. You set spend limits per transaction, per day, and per week. You control which merchants are allowed or blocked. And every transaction is logged for full audit visibility.

Your AI can never spend more than you allow.

What happens if my AI tries to buy the wrong thing?

Nothing bad — because every purchase requires your approval. When your AI sends a request, you see the merchant, amount, and description before you approve or deny. If something looks wrong, just tap Deny.

Your spend limits also act as a safety net: even if you accidentally approve, the transaction can't exceed your configured limits.

Does PettyBot store my credit card information?

No. PettyBot uses Stripe for payment processing and never stores your full credit card details. When a purchase is approved, PettyBot issues a scoped, single-use payment token — limited to the approved amount and merchant.

Your card information stays with Stripe, which is PCI Level 1 certified.

Can I set rules for what my AI is allowed to buy?

Yes. PettyBot gives you granular control:

Set per-transaction limits, daily and weekly spend caps, merchant allowlists and blocklists, and auto-approve rules for trusted low-value purchases.

For example, you could auto-approve coffee under $10 from your favorite shop but require manual approval for everything else.

How It Works

What kinds of things can AI buy for me?

AI agents excel at research-heavy purchases: finding the best-rated gift for a specific person, comparing specialty ingredients across stores, sourcing hard-to-find parts, booking travel with complex constraints, or renewing subscriptions at the best price.

Anything that benefits from comparison shopping, deep research, or multi-step checkout is a good fit.

What is Model Context Protocol (MCP)?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard originally created by Anthropic that defines how AI models connect to external tools and data sources.

Think of it as a USB port for AI — any MCP-compatible agent can use any MCP server. PettyBot is an MCP server that gives AI agents the ability to request purchases.

What is agentic commerce?

Agentic commerce is the practice of AI agents autonomously researching, selecting, and purchasing products or services on behalf of a human user.

Unlike traditional e-commerce where you browse and click, your AI handles the entire shopping process — subject to your rules and approval. PettyBot provides the trust and control layer that makes agentic commerce practical.

Pricing & Plans

How much does PettyBot cost?

PettyBot offers three tiers:

Free: Up to 10 approvals per month with a $50 spend limit. Perfect for trying it out.

See our pricing page for full details.

Is there a free tier?

Yes. The free plan includes up to 10 purchase approvals per month with a $50 spend limit. It's a great way to experience AI-powered purchasing before committing to a paid plan.

Is PettyBot compatible with OpenClaw (formerly Moltbot / Clawdbot)?

Yes — this is exactly what PettyBot was designed for. OpenClaw (formerly Moltbot / Clawdbot) is a computer-use AI agent that can browse the web and interact with sites on your behalf. PettyBot gives OpenClaw a secure way to handle the payment step.

When OpenClaw reaches a checkout, it sends a purchase request through PettyBot. You see the merchant, amount, and description, then approve or deny with a tap. The payment is handled safely — no card details are ever exposed to the agent.
